In the same fashion, Peter Parker had every right to ignored the thief running past him, considering he was cheated out of his money that he earned, but that decision had ended up haunting him for the rest of his life. As for the "weak and pitiful creature" comment, I see what you saying. But, you have to admit, if anyone else would to listen (including her own sister), the message would be taken as a sign that she was developing an inferior complex (which could be happening, considering the whole pride thing, but right now, it is only a guess).
