The large number didn't surprise me, as this is the inherent nature of branches. Branches being responded to by a different author then the parent happens 41% of the time in the archive. Note that this number can never reach 100%, as each response trying to plug an un-responded hole actually creates a hole of its own. Of these branches responded to, the average number of days before a response is 259 days. The largest gap between first post and response has been 3413 days.
