Rules of the Bench Universe?Episode submitted by pakkwiman on Sun Sep 25 23:48:48 2011 Return to Parent Episode Are Linda et al. replacing a five-member Goth band that already existed, or does their band have no counterpart in the previous reality? What are the rules of the Bench universe? Here's my (mis?)understanding of them: Apparently everyone within the radius of the stone first finds themselves wearing some random outfit (which didn't even belong to a previous person?) and then mutates to fit that outfit, becoming a person who didn't have a counterpart in the previous reality. Thus the Bench universe isn't like Musical Closets in which people take on existing roles -- the whole town is being reconfigured, person by person, into a different town without any one-to-one correspondence to the old Lake Point. So, for example, there was no freckled redheaded mother of two before Mikey took on that role -- his new appearance was a random effect of the wish. Presumably everybody's last names change at some point to surnames nobody in the town had before: e.g., Sarah and Jon become sisters sharing a new surname rather than Madison, McMillan, etc. Speaking of Sarah and Jon, are they changing ethnicity? Are random people in the town becoming her children (who may only be in her mind right now)? Lastly, I was confused by "Cup of Tea." Here's my attempt to break down what happened. I'd appreciate clarification of events 4 and 7 -- and any corrections. 1. Laura leaves. 2. Nadine sees someone else coming. 3. Nadine's outfit changes. 4. Nadine says, "Look what you made me do." What is Nadine referring to? What did she do? Drive Laura away? 5. The stranger asks who Laura is. 6. Nadine and Laura "hadn't seen each other in a long while." Since they are so different now, it's hard to imagine that they were friends, though maybe they took different paths in life long ago. Are they still related in this new reality? 7. Nadine invites the stranger in. I'd like to have a better grasp of the Bench universe before writing in it. Thanks! what answers I can provide. | |
