I think it's mostly just that it kind of felt like piling on; Lilly's already got her own issues with her change to deal with, and she's only just starting to figure out where she fits into the new group dynamic after getting mad (kind of understandably) at the only friends her own age she really has.

Also, as far as Lilly as a character, I like her. I don't think she comes off as unnecessary or annoying; she doesn't have any particularily special abilities, but she's one of those characters like Haru that provide a good opportunity to look at the more psychological side of the whole mass-involuntary-transformation thing.
