FundamentalsEpisode submitted by chompy on Mon Dec 19 12:47:31 2011 Return to Parent Episode I can think of being lost in a void for all eternity as being probably one of the worst. See Steven Kings 'the jaunt' for a good idea of a worst case scenario ;) I'm going to carry it as a trail of thought from established ideas and see where it leads us. That might help work out the dangers. I admit its a bit random... but maybe it will help think things up. Nothing is set in stone... I'm just rambling here. First of all, there exists 'fundamental' incarnations of the forces within the universe as established in the story. To illustrate this, take a very simple universe with only three elements (eg red green blue). Each different combination leads you to about 7 different possible gods in combination (think the primary colours). It goes up exponentially when you add even more fundamental forces- which in our universe, might be infinite or certainly close to infinite. If humans create gods, they must be doing so from fundamental forces in existence giving them a 'face'. Now, that leads us to the question on if there is more then 'one' universe, or if each dimension is simply an aspect of the greater universe. (I'm trying to get away from multi-verse theories because... it's been done and is just a little dull to me at the moment) We have established at least 'one' other place, but it has not been identified as existing in another universe, or simple another planet far away within the same universe, or as a 'sub' universe. My gut tends to make me think it exists as part of a sub world, connected to Earth in some yet to be established way. The sun on that world, is the 'same' sun... kind of. solar flares there would have the same flare going on in both places at the same time. It's just the light reaching both places is different, for some reason. But this is heavily open to interpretation. The only thing known is that it takes magic to get there with small holes in reality now existing, and the sun used to change people back... but now Earth has dominance over that realm now. That certainly adds evidence to the theory that the two worlds are heavily connected. So... going back to the original thought, what kind of risks exist to someone moving from 'place to place'. Unlike when going to that sub realm which would have the same fundamental forces, a person would move further away from the fundamental forces that make up existence. Going back to the original very simple universe of red-green and blue, they might move too far away from 'blue' and suddenly only red and green exists. This is actually quite a scary thought... the further away one goes, the more 'nothing' exists, until there really is absolutely nothing. But this is complicated by the fact that they are themselves 'something' and would tend to deform 'nothing' as they travel in that realm. Essentially, they carry a little bit of red green and blue concept on them, but not enough to actually 'influence' something to be red-green or blue. Hope I've not lost anyone there... Okay, so this would mean as 'fact' that there really is 'nothing' out there for them to find. The 'gods' are all where they left. However that might not be completely the case... The universe might have had 'different' fundamentals at some point, and they might encounter the echoes of them. (this is a very big 'might'.. This would probably be on the further edges of reality. But by going there, these new aspects might suddenly 'wake up'. There also exists the possibility of them going to areas where other aspects do not exist to balance out another in that corner of existence. Straying into 'extreme' realms would mean only 'one' force exists there (in DnD terms it would be the sub aspects of a portfolio... the absolute primal force. To go there directly and physically might be extraordinary dangerous and unfathomable. They might not even realise what that force is. I think maybe the greatest danger might not be just to themselves but also in reality. in 'changing' the fundamental forces around them by encountering them (much like an eddy in a water). Basicly they might step on something and change an aspect of the 'whole' reality. Going back to the idea of a red-green-blue universe, they might change the contrast of 'blue' and suddenly things are a little more 'blue-ish- on Earth. One would hope there is a self correcting mechanism for such things... but who knows. Men are mice and the gods are sleeping cats. It's possible they might be too small to really do anything of such huge consequence... but I don't see it as too implausible something like that could happen. Given the focus is Earth and that's where the elemental objects are... anything they do would affect Earth first. (hopefully not too badly) Finally... one has to wonder, what they plan to eat. I suppose we could make them that they don't need to eat... but even something as basic as that is tricky. Anyway those are my random thoughts... take what you want from them. I'm not sure how much of this I'll actually use, but I hope it was interesting if nothing else. Well | |
