Iridescent Sun: A few pointers on translation and interpretingEpisode submitted by The_Weirdo on Sun May 22 06:42:40 2011 Return to Parent Episode Folks, just to point out - While the nurse and the doctor in the chapter are under no obligation to know that, if people call an interpreter or translator to translate a language when they don't know what language it is, the interpreter would outright refuse, if not laugh on their faces. Another point: An actual interpreter charges a fair amount of cash per hour, to the tune of US$ 100.00 or so an hour if I'm not mistaken (at least by Brazilian standards). They MAY try to get a doctor that knows other languages to try and do some fairly rudimentary interpreting, but even that won't help her. What an interpreter, translator or other linguist WOULD help with, however, is identifying the fact that Anneza's language IS an actual language (as opposed to gibberish) and does not seem to belong to any of the main branches (a very good linguist or philologist might be able to tell that it belongs to none). Finally, one such specialist might be able to help her in a manner not unlike those researchers helped Nell in the movie of the same name - though it would take, quite literally, years, maybe decades.
