I really appreciate the offer... but it's okay. The change in Robert's character were specifically to his faith. I had hoped to explore that loss of faith and slow building to regaining it, without things becoming too evangelical. But I just don't feel comfortable now with it all, given how crazy things tend to get when religion starts to become a central plot. Writing about religion is never easy... it's one of those traps in story telling I think. I fear the plot had become an excuse just to take pot shots at religion, instead of being a plot about religious characters. It makes me just a little uncomfortable to even use a religious character because of that. That being said, nothing in the story has happened that is implausible. It's just hard to work with for me. On reflection I think the story isn't so dire as to need a re-write. It's manageable really. I just can't wrap my head around a lot of these new characters and it's frustrating. Ah. | |
