...Episode submitted by Area82 on Fri Dec 9 22:27:35 2011 Return to Parent Episode "Yeah...Zoe is one of those characters like Sarah whom I try to write noticeably different from the way they're usually portrayed, because it seems they get a lot of cheap one-note characterizations; Sarah is almost always either a dumb bitch or some Machiavellian monster, and Zoe's just about inevitably stand-offish and unpleasant for no good reason. So I try and make Sarah show some nuance and character growth, and Zoe is more agreeable, if not particularily social (I like the way she needles at Jon every now and again, in a snarky-little-sister kind of way.)" > Ahh, yeah, the ol' stereotypical versions of goths and cheerleaders. I personally and completely agreed with you on this, since they are still individual people with their own quirks and natures, like anyone else. I mean, the best example of a non-stereotypical goth would be that female Goth character in the television show 'NCIS', Abby. She wear gothic clothes and all that jazz, but you never seen anyone so cheerful in your whole life. "The problem with writing for Zoe is that she just doesn't have that much going on, plot-wise - she's more or less okay with her change, Athena doesn't seem to be having too much trouble either, and neither of them intersect with the other plots that often, so she mostly shows up through occasional interactions with the other characters." > That okay, it doesn't necessary be some kind of sub-plot, just reference or mention them from time to time so that no one doesn't seems forgotten in the masses of sub-plots. It is easy to get lost in them, truth me on that. | |
